BHMA Certification Program
The Builders Hardware Manufacturing Association (BHMA) brings together industry-leading manufacturers of commercial door hardware to advise on and help craft standards, codes and life safety regulations crucial to the security and ease of moving through the public spaces we access every day. The BHMA is the only organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop and maintain these standards.
Participants in the BHMA Certification program voluntarily put their engineering to the test, subjecting their products to scrutiny by a nationally recognized independent laboratory to ensure that they meet a demanding set of standards. These standards involve not only the consistent operation, durability, and security of a product, but even their ability to maintain an attractive appearance in harsh or abusive environments.
Many Yale products achieve or surpass the criteria for Grade 1 or Grade 2 certification for strength, durability and security of products in a number of use cases and environments. See the charts in the dropdown menus below for more information!

SAFETY & SECURITY
APPEARANCE
Forces required for latch retraction and closing of the door must ensure smooth egress (max torque of 28 in-lbf)
Subjected to 1 million cycles of opening and closing with 10 lb. axial load
Passes seven aggressive tests, including a 1,200 in-lbf locked lever torque and two directions of impact
